Our Atlanta showroom hosted "Celebrating Black Makers", a Juneteenth celebration that brought together creatives, highlighted the contributions of Black professionals in our industry, and provided networking and connection opportunities for all. Over 75 attendees enjoyed PechaKucha style presentations where presenters shared their take on the theme “Freedom to Create”. They also enjoyed a market-style shopping experience with several local vendors and "Southern Summer" themed food, drinks, and music. The event was held in partnership with the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA), National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), and National Association of Black Women in Construction (NABWIC) Atlanta Chapters.

Guests celebrated Juneteenth, "Freedom Day", and the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. Despite the Emancipation Proclamation being made effective in 1863, freedom for slaves in places still under Confederate control would not come until years later. On June 19th, 1865, the day of freedom finally came for the last remaining slaves. Thousands of Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, and declared the 250,000 still enslaved people of the state were free by executive decree. This day became known as Juneteenth and marks our country's second Independence Day. Juneteenth is celebrated across the nation today as a symbol of hope, freedom, and progress, and honors African American history, heritage, and culture.

Thank you to everyone who attended and enjoyed the evening with us, and a special thank you to our partners and vendors for helping to create such a meaningful and impactful event!
